Mary Hamilton Swindler papers

Overview Born in Bloomington, Indiana in 1884, Mary Hamilton Swindler graduated from the University of Indiana in 1905 and received her master's degree from the same university in 1906. Swindler first came to Bryn Mawr College in 1906 as a graduate scholar in Greek. From 1912 until 1949 she taught Archaeology and Classics at the college. Taylor Family papers

Overview

Papers realted to the 19th-century Quaker Shoemaker and Taylor families of Burlington, NJ and Philadelphia and their westward movement to begin a business in Ohio. They deal also with such varied topics as surveying, sheep raising, the Contraband Relief Commission, the establishment of Bryn Mawr College and the mental hospital Friends' Asylum. Prominent correspondents are Abraham Merritt Taylor, Joseph Wright Taylor, Isaac Shoemaker, Charles Shoemaker and Thomas Wistar Jr.

Dorothy Burr Thompson diaries and papers

Overview

Dorothy Burr Thompson (1900 – 2001) was a prominent archaeologist who graduated from Bryn Mawr in 1923. She specialized in Greek terracotta. Burr Thompson and her husband, Homer A. Thompson, were both heavily involved with the American School of Classical Studies in Athens. The collection includes her diaries, personal correspondence, and professional papers. It also includes contains both personal and research related photographs and postcards.

Genevieve Thompson (Smith) scrapbook

Overview Genevieve Thompson Smith was born December 2, 1885 in Portland, Oregon. She was prepared for college by the Portland Academy in Portland and Mrs. Hartman’s School in New York. She attended Bryn Mawr College from 1903-1905 and the University of Oregon Law School from 1911-1913. She moved to Washington, D.C. where she worked in the Russian section of U.S. Army intelligence during World War I. In 1921, she married Admiral Norman Murray Smith. Thompson died in Portland, Oregon on May 20, 1974....
