Biographical / Historical
203 Park Avenue was designed by William E. Jackson (1857-1930) who maintained an office with Wilson Eyre. It was built in 1904 for Rebecca P. Beistle, widow of Joseph N. Beistle who died in 1898. Their children attended Swarthmore College. Mrs. Beistle sold the house before 1920, and she and daughter rented in Swarthmore. Louis Ward Wheelock and his first wife Blanche Toulon Wheelock purchased 203 Park Avenue, and it remained in the Wheelock family until 1979.
Louis and Blanche had three children: Louis Ward, Jr., Blanche, and Hope. Wheelock worked for Stephen F. Whitman Company and died in 1950. After the death of Blanche in 1928, he married a second time to Marie A. Creamer. She died in 1976, and David Ffrench, Sr., purchased the house from Marie Creamer Wheelock's sister in 1979.
