Biographical / Historical

Juwan Usang Ly was a student at Haverford College 1916-1917. He later graduated from the New York University and obtained masters degrees at the University of Pennsylvania and Columbia University. He worked as a researcher at the Congressional Library, as a bank manager in Hong Kong and authored influential publications "Socialism in China" in 1912 and "An Economic Interpretation of the Increase in Bandits in China" in 1918.

Ly also founded the Chinese Science Society, became a member of the Chinese Economic Society and chaired the Chinese Educational Society. He later lived in Shanghai, China.
