This collection consists of a volume of letters written by friends to Edmund H. Stinnes on the occasion of his 70th birthday on March 23, 1966. The letters are photocopies. A number of the letter writers have connections to Haverford College, especially the Relief and Reconstruction Program.

Biographical Note
Edmund Hugo Stinnes was born in Germany on March 23, 1896. He fled the country with the rise of the Third Reich, settling first in Switzerland and then the United States. Stinnes was a professor of government at Haverford College from 1942 to 1946, where he mainly taught in the Relief and Reconstruction Program. The students in the program completed special area classes on regions in Europe to prepare them for reconstruction work there after the war. Stinnes's courses focused on the political, economic, and cultural history of Germany and the Balkan countries. He died on August 19, 1980. His daughter Veronica Stinnes Petersen, who served on the Haverford College Board of Managers in the 1980s, created the Edmund and Margiana Stinnes Professorship in Global Studies, named after both of her parents.
