Scope and Contents

The Eva Levin Milbouer papers contain the class materials of Eva Milbouer, Bryn Mawr College class of 1934. The collection, which ranges from 1929-1935, contains Milbouer’s exams, class notes, and notebooks.

The collection is housed in one box containing 31 folders.

The collection has a strong focus on Chemistry and Biology. It contains Milbouer’s notes and notebooks from Biology II, Organic Chemistry I and II, Physical Chemistry, Physiology, Major Chemistry, Biochemistry, and Quantitative Analysis Chemistry. It also contains Milbouer’s exams from Algebra, Trigonometry, Calculus, Organic Chemistry, Biochemistry, etc. There are also miscellaneous materials in the collection, such as a New York Times magazine clipping on Bryn Mawr Scientists, and letters from Milbouer’s friend, Betty Kindleberger Stone. The folders do not appear to be arranged according to any specific principle.

Although small, this collection provides valuable insight into the Chemistry and Biology curricula at Bryn Mawr during the late 1920s- early 1930s. It would be a useful resource to anyone interested in the history of science classes at women’s colleges. It should be noted that Milbouer also has a photo album, held in the scrapbook and photo album collection.

Biographical / Historical

Eva Levin Milbouer was raised in Baltimore, Maryland, the daughter of Bertha Szold (BMC 1895). She was prepared by the Forest Park High School in Baltimore. She attended Bryn Mawr College from 1929-30, and 1931-34, where she majored in Biology. She was the Alumnae Regional Scholar from 1929-30 and 1931-32, and named the Elizabeth S. Shippen Scholar in Science from 1933-34.
