Ruth Emerson (Fletcher) scrapbook

 Collection — Volume: 1
Identifier: 9LS-29b -SCP-35

Scope and Contents

The Ruth Emerson (Fletcher) scrapbook houses the one volume scrapbook of Ruth Emerson, Bryn Mawr College class of 1893. The scrapbook, which ranges from 1890-1897, consists mostly of letters and poems to Ruth from friends and other personal memorabilia without a lot of context. The scrapbook consists of one volume. Included within are handwritten lyrics to the Class of ’96 song and the Freshman Song 1888; a hand-drawn card of the Bryn Mawr lanterns; dance cards, calling cards, and invitations; College Exams for English and Classics; handwritten poems (including one about Paul Shorey of the Classics Department); commencement programs 1891-1896; invitations from the “Science and Art Club of Germantown” 1891; invitation/dance card/Glee Club program from Princeton 1893; large comic from Life “For the Benefit of the Girl Who is About to Graduate”; a Taylor clock tower picture; and more. The scrapbook contains much of the typical Bryn Mawr memorabilia, although the handwritten poems and drawings might be of particular interest to some. However, the scrapbook is extremely fragile and is not suitable for casual use. Other scrapbooks of this period contain much of the same material.
