Abstract

This collection includes various documents relating to the The Emlen Institution for the Benefit of Children of African and Indian descent, including business correspondence (chiefly on financial matters), treasurer's accounts and reports, receipts, bills, inventories, trustees minutes. Also a printed copy of will of Samuel Emlen and deed to land in Warminster, Bucks Co., 1765 (recorded 17[8]7).

Abstract The Friends' Reading Room Association was founded in 1835, and dissolved in 1842. Its Constitution, included in the minutes, states its purpose: "An Institution in a central part of the city, which shall be furnished with a judcious selection of books, maps and periodical publications, calculated to promote moral and religous improvement, a knowledge of the principles and history of the Society of Friends and an acquiantance with the arts, science and general literature." Abstract

The collection contains Haverford professor Holland Hunter's correspondence, reports, minutes from various meetings, newspaper articles and handwritten notes pertaining to the establishment of an Engineering course at Haverford College, establishment of a Retirement Community in the Philadelphia area, debate over coeducation at Haverford and a debate over a legislation about the distribution of Soviet periodicals in the USA during the Cold War.

This collection contains one volume of minutes from the Red Cedar Monthly Meeting in Iowa. The minutes are comprised of responses to queries, descriptions of certificates recieved, committee reports, among other decisions of the body. In the back it also includes a list of letters received and returned.

This collection contains typed research notes by an unknown person. Previously they were referred to as extracts, however they are not formal printed extracts. The notes are from Yearly and Monthly Meetings, including Baltimore Yearly Meeting, Indiana Yearly Meeting, and Ohio Yearly Meeting. Many of the notes either are categorized by topic, or include topical indices.
