Collections of still photographic types, including paper prints, cased photographs, glass plates, and slides. Historically, when processing a collection, FHL staff have often removed the photographs from the manuscript portion (e.g. RG4 organizational records or RG5 family or personal papers) and stored them as an associated PA photographs collection. FHL staff have also assembled alphabetical files by topic, such as the Meetinghouse Picture File.

Rogerenes of New England photograph collection

Abstract

This collection consists of images relating to the Rogerenes, a pacifist religious sect founded by John Rogers (1648-1721) in New England in the late 1670s. These materials were collected by Ellen Starr Brinton during her tenure as Curator of the Swarthmore College Peace Collection (1935-1951); she wrote several articles on the Rogerenes and compiled an extensive bibliography of sources.

Russell and Juanita Rosene slides, scrapbook, and videocassette

Margery Rubin New York Yearly Meeting photographs

Abstract Margery Rubin was a Quaker involved with a variety of Friends organizations including New York Yearly Meeting, the American Friends Service Committee, and Friends Journal. Russell-Pownall-Walton family photographs

Abstract The Pownall and Walton were Pennsylvania Quaker families who came to reside in Delaware County. The bulk of the collection involves Charles Regnier Russell and his wife, Ruth Elizabeth Pownall. Scattergood Hostel and Scattergood Friends School photographs

Abstract

Scattergood Friends School opened in Iowa in 1890. The school closed during the Great Depression, and was repurposed during World War II as Scattergood Hostel to acclimate refugees from Europe. In 1944, it reopened as a school and remains open today. The bulk of this collection is photographs of Scattergood Refugee Hostel, but there are also photographs of pre-war and post-war Scattergood Friends School.

James H. Scheuer Photographs

Abstract

Photographs of Representative James H. Scheuer, Class of 1942, his family, associates, and constituents. As a Member of Congress, Scheuer met many famous people and many ordinary people and took care to document these meetings. The result is thousands of contact sheets, prints, and negatives recording everything from high level meetings with world leaders to discussions on the street with district residents. This collection complements the papers Sheuer donated at the same time.

Martha Schofield photograph collection

Abstract

Martha Schofield (1839-1916) was a Hicksite Quaker teacher from Pennsylvania who founded the Schofield Normal and Industrial School in Aiken, S. C., in 1868 to provide education for formerly enslaved people. This collection contains a number of portraits of Martha Schofield, as well as some family pictures and photographs of the Schofield school.

Scott Arboretum of Swarthmore College slide collection

Abstract The Arthur Hoyt Scott Horticultural Foundation was established at Swarthmore College in 1929 as a memorial to Arthur Hoyt Scott (1874-1927). The intention of the Foundation was to focus on plantings appropriate to Eastern Pennsylvania, creating a practical "garden of ideas" for amateur gardeners while at the same time improving the campus.
