George A. Hoadley photograph collection
The collection contains photographs taken by George A. Hoadley, long-time professor of physics at Swarthmore College and secretary of the Franklin Institute. A founder of the Swarthmore College Camera Club, he was a avid amateur photographer. Approximately 2,000 of his glass negatives were preserved in the family home; they illustrate Swarthmore College and local homes and sites from circa 1899-1929.
Palmer Family Photographs
The Palmer family was a Hicksite Quaker family who settled in Bucks County, PA, but who were also active in Delaware County, especially as several family members attended Swarthmore College. Dating from the 1880s to the 1890s, this collections consists of cabinet cards and cartes de visite that depict members of the Palmer family as well as family relatives or friends.
Swarthmore College Astronomy Department photographs
This collection, dating from 1905 to 1975, consists of astronomy images taken or collected by Swarthmore College Astronomy Department students and professors. Most of the images are on glassplates, but there are also some paper photographs. Images depict the college, eclipses, constellations, comets, and more.
Swarthmore College Bulletin photographs collection
The Swarthmore College Bulletin is the official alumni magazine of Swarthmore College. This collection consists of photographs assembled for use in the magazine, some of which were ultimately published and some of which were not. Most of these are color photographs.
