Abstract This collection contains papers of the Bailey and Wood families, including diaries and school lesson books of Edith M. B. Wood and an account book kept by her husband, Herbert W. Wood, a Quaker pastor. Also family correspondence, 1847-1859, primarily to Edith's mother, and a small number of miscellaneous Quaker-related items. Joel and Hannah Bean Papers

Abstract Joel Bean (1835-1914) and his wife, Hannah Elliott Bean (1830-1909), were prominent Quaker ministers in Iowa Yearly Meeting in the mid-nineteenth century when Quaker settlements were expanding in Iowa. Joel Bean was born in Alton, New Hampshire, in 1825, the son of John and Elizabeth Hill Bean, and educated at Friends Boarding School in Providence, Rhode Island. William Hobson Papers

Abstract

William Hobson, 1820-1891, was a Quaker minister and farmer from North Carolina, Iowa, and Oregon. The collection contains chiefly diaries (1859-1891) describing rural life in Iowa and ministerial visits to California, Kansas, Missouri, and Oregon; together with autobiographical fragments and notes for sermons.

Kaltenbach Family Correspondence

Abstract

The collection consists primarily of letters written by John E. Kaltenbach to his parents, Edward C. and Ethel Kaltenbach, from Wesleyan University, Yale Divinity School, and while working as the acting director for the Scattergood Hostel for European Refugees in Iowa. Also a small number of letters from his sister, Linda Kaltenbach, while a student at Swarthmore College.
